Hey Brenda,
It was my pleasure sending you the pictures! The fishing adventure was amazing! There were 6 of fishing on the charter that day and I got to bring darn near all the fish in because the seas were very rough that day and there were 12 to 14 foot swells. The other 5 people were extremely sea sick! Every time we hoked up. I turned around and they all had their heads over the side of the boat. Yahoo for me!
The Skipjack tuna was one of hte largest that Captain Don has ever landed on his boat in 12 years. They average 5 to 7 lbs. and mine was 23 1/2 lbs. That thing peeled line off like I have never seen! We figured he peeled off about 600 yards of line in about 30 seconds. It took me about 20 minutes to bring him in as we were using pretty light tackle.
The Mahimahi was the most fun I have ever had bringing in a fish. She came out of the water 8 times and avery leap was around 10 feet. It was amazing to see. I wish I would have got a picture just after I landed, but nobody was in any shape to take a picture for me. The colours were way brighter just after I landed it. This fish, the green one weighed in at 29 pounds. That is average for one of those Mahimahi's. It took me about 15 minutes to bring her in as we hooked her right behind the boat. It was chasing one of the tuna's that one of the other guys was bringing in. It was an awesome fight!
We will see you again this summer when we come up again!
You are more than welcome to use the pictures...that shirt has been in on many exciting fishing trips this last year! -
Mike

Hello and sorry this is late. My name is Travis Sather and together with my buddy Nick Willard we had a fantastic time fishing the Kitimat river in mid July. After fishing for chinook salmon for several days with no success we contacted the good folks at Doorselfin Adventures about chartering a drift boat to get in on some of the action we had heard about around town. We booked our trip and our guide Darryl Little contacted us about when and where we would be meeting to fish the river. (Just a side note- The day before the drift was my birthday, which I celebrated at one of the local watering holes and let me tell you 4 am came quite early) It was definately worth it. Darryl certainly knows the river and we had our limit in no time. Check out the attached pictures.
Thanks again,
Travis Sather - Grande Prairie, AB |

Hello Brenda and Staff,
In mid June, my brother-in-law (Justin) and I (Tony) were up in Kitimat fishing for spring salmon. We were there for a total of five days, fishing from the shore of the river. We did have some success. I managed to land a 24lb doe and lost four other springs. My brother-in-law on the other hand had a run of bad luck and managed to lose the three that he had hooked into. He was disappointed to say the least. That was his first salmon fishing trip, and he desperately wanted to catch one before we left.
In desperation, we stopped by your store to see if there was a guide available to take us on a half day drift. The staff told us that most of the guides were already booked for that day, however, there was one guide that might be available for an evening drift. Unable to contact the guide immediately, your staff told us to go back fishing and to stop by the shop later that afternoon to see if the guide had called back. About 30 minutes later, one of the ladies from your staff came down to the river to inform us that the guide was willing to go for an evening drift. We were ecstatic!
At four in the afternoon we were introduced to our guide: Darrel Little. Your staff assured us that he would put us into some fish that night. Off we went to the put in at Radley Park. Before setting off on our fishing adventure Darrel explained what he needed us to do in order to insure a safe, fun trip. After about ten minutes about how our evening was going to go, we set off down the river. Within twenty minutes we had hooked our first fish! Unfortunately, when Justin set the hook, the fishing rod broke and the fish promptly got off. The fish getting off was the least of our worries. We felt terrible about the broken rod! Darrel, on the other hand, hardly seemed concerned. He simply got another rod ready and we continued down the river. Darrel was an excellent guide: very professional, personable, and most notably knowledgeable. During our drift we hooked eight salmon, unfortunately we only managed to land two. However, both Justin and I were extremely happy with the fish we caught and the entire drift boat experience. In fact, had we not landed a salmon at all, both Justin and I believe that the cost of the drift would have been money well spent. Darrel was a pleasure to go fishing with.
During my past fishing trips, I have always bought my supplies from one of your competitors as I had no idea there was any other fishing store in town. Now, for Justin and I, there is only one fishing store in town...Doorselfin Adventures!!!!! Both you and your staff should be very proud of the service you provide to your customers. In all honestly, I don't think I have ever had such quality service anywhere.
I have told everyone I know (and anyone who will listen) about how great your store and staff are, and about the great time we had with Darrel. You will see both Justin and I back in the near future, and I hope some of our friends will take our advice and visit you as well.
I have attached a picture of Justin and I with the fish we caught.
Cheers,

Hello Brenda and staff; Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone there for the help picking out some fishing lures etc. we didn`t have great success this time( 1 18lb and 1-pink ) but had fun and enjoyed a new experiance.Maybe have better luck next time. But, if you don`t mind me saying this, could you put up a sign on your store so it is visible from the main road once you cross the bridge. i was lucky to have family there to show me where your store was, but talking to people at the park or fishing holes, they did not know where the store was, but i hope they found it ok. Again, thank you very much for everything and will see you on our next trip that way. Keep smiling -

My name is Kobie Lawrence and I am a ten year old boy from Hinton, Alberta. My dad and I went fishing with Bob for some salmon while we were in Kitimat. We tried out in the channel for about a week with no success. Then my dad found out about Bob's fishing charter and decided to give it a try. It was awsome. Bob is really nice and he helped me catch a bunch of pink salmon for my mom. My dad got to catch all the big springs though. Fishing the river is the best. We even got to see a grizzly bear and a seal eating a salmon right in front of us. I can't wait to go again! Next time I am going to catch the big one. Thanks Bob and I can't wait to see you again next year.
Yours truly,
Kobie Lawrence

Hi, Bob and Brenda,
Just a quick note to thank you again for the prize of a Day Drift on the Kitimat River. We have fished the Kitimat before, from shore, and have often commented that fishing would be so much better if we could only get to "this spot or that spot" on the river. Well, guess what? We found that in a drift boat, you can easily get to the "fishin' hole" and stay there all day if you want to.
As well, Bob's knowledge and experience on the river was quite evident, as was his concern to preserve and protect the habitat. We look forward to trying some of the tips and techniques he shared in our future trips.
Great fishing, great scenery, great weather, and sooo many eagles!!!
Thank you,
Paul & Cheryl Van der Meer-

Hi Bob and Brenda
Just wanted to say thanks again for a great day on the drift boat with Bob ( July 8th 2006). The experience of a lifetime was made possible by yourselves. On the trip back all three of us new that we had been very fortunate to have such a great day on the Kitimat River. For my self to land 6 !!! was the ultimate bragging tool on the trip back to Edmonton last night.
Thanks again,
Glenn Andrusiak (left on the drift boat)
P.S.My neighbors son is leaving for Kitimat this weekend I will be telling him about Doorselfin !!! |
